The Pyramid Cabaret

Winnipeg, Manitoba
April 19, 2015

Last night after a 7 hour drive we made it in just in time to check out Masked Intruder and Strung Out at The Pyramid here in Winnipeg Manitoba. This seems like a throw back to the FAT tour with 2 of the 4 bands being on FAT Wreck Chords. Both of these bands have new records out on FAT and have hit the road together to support their albums.

It was the coldest day of the week outside but inside it was anything but. I have never had the chance to see Masked Intruder and to be honest wasn’t sure if I was ever going to get the chance. Winnipeg isn’t the easiest of locations to reach and lets be honest its not getting any easier for touring bands to tour. So when I saw that Masked Intruder was lined up as support for Strung Out I was very excited to see what their live show was going to be like. I was not disappointed. They came out like a pop punk rocket. Blue, Yellow, Green and Red intruder stuck to their tough guy demeanour trying to solicit beers, chips and trying to find anyone with to much money and relieve them of it. Shenanigans aside Masked Intruder blasted through most of their first album. Officer Bradford was there and making sure the boys didn’t escape or get to out of hand. He was another great source of entertainment. Officer Bradford was out in the crowd and up on the stage and just everywhere. The boys brought some ladies on stage as unofficial back up dancers and even let one of the ladies sing the female part of “Heart Shaped Guitar” All in all it was a great experience seeing a band that I have never had the chance to see before and cannot wait to see them again.

Next up was Strung Out. I have seen Strung Out a number of times of the past few years. They are a FAT Wreck Chords staple and have just released a new album entitled “Transmission. Alpha. Delta” Strung Out has never disappointed live. They are one of those veteran bands the deliver every single time they hit the stage. They came out swinging. With these guys banter is not on the menu. What is on the menu is blazing fast guitars and drums. Strung Out throughout all of their releases seem to fuse metal and punk together just perfectly so that they don’t go to much in either direction. I can’t write to much of a review of their set because I ended up leaving after 5 or so songs. Its not that I don’t like Strung Out its just it was a long day and my bed was sounding like an amazing place.

All in all it was a great evening of music. Strung Out continues to do what they do perfectly which is be a super tight live band that delivers the goods every single time. Masked Intruder being the “new kids on the block” and I don’t mean the band came and won every single person over in the crowd. Its not often you go to a show were everyone in the crowd is smiling but last night was one of those nights. Thanks guys!
